Library/Technology Mini-Conference

It is official! The Region 3 ESC Library/Technology Mini-Conference is set for November 5, 2010 at the University of Houston-Victoria.

We are currently taking session proposals at the conference website:

https://sites.google.com/site/2010libtech

All session proposals will be considered. Session leaders will be notified if their proposal is accepted. This is a great opportunity for area librarians to share ideas and successes with colleagues and get feedback from others in their field.

Annual Reports

As we start a new school year and get back in the swing of things, librarians are prepping their libraries for business. Creativity is flowing and library programming ideas are taking shape. Here are a few questions to ponder:

How will you evaluate your usefulness in the school?
Do you keep data to show the administrators exactly what you do?
How are you contributing to the instructional goals of your district?

The answer to these questions is to create a Annual Report. Much like a business report to stockholders, your Annual Report can show your administrators and school board just what you do and why you are so valuable.

Annual Reports are traditionally presented in text/graphs or PowerPoint form. Look at this video report below created in Animoto.

The Unquiet Library

As you start the year, plan ways to collect similar data so that you can create an Annual Report too.

"Librarians do Gaga"

I think this video is so creative. Librarians and library students at the University of Washington are featured in this parody of "Poker Face" called "Catalog".

And we're off....

Region 3 Librarians,

It is that time again! We are getting ready for school to start.

Workshops should be available in the next week or so through the online workshop system. I will post topics here on the blog when sessions are ready for enrollment. Still looking for ideas if you have a specific need you would like to see addressed through a workshop.

If you haven't signed up for the Region 3 Librarians listserv, the link is below. I will send out information through the listserv as well as through this blog and the wiki.

To save some trees and give you access to online resources, I have created the wiki linked below. I will post handouts and other workshop resources, as well as articles, tips, ideas, and other great stuff.
